Frances E. Pierce
 

Frances E. Pierce, aged 82, of Deerfield Township, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in the South Jersey Health Care Regional Medical Center in Vineland. She had been in failing health for the past 7 months.

The wife of the late Luther S. Pierce, Sr., who passed away in November of 2000, she was born in Bridgeton on Feb. 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Alverna Cuff. She was raised by the late Howard and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Stewart.

Prior to her retirement 10 years ago, she had worked for the former Seible & Stern Sewing Factory in Bridgeton and had driven school bus for Pierce’s Bus Service. She retired from the Cumberland County C A T S program as a communications operator and senior bus radio dispatcher.

Frances was a faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Fordville, serving as president of the Senior Usher Board. She was a member of Wenonah Temple # 165 in Bridgeton, the Nora F. Taylor Council of Southern New Jersey and was a Past State President, Past, Past Grand Daughter Ruler of the Grand Temple and Grand District Deputy of the I. B. P. O. Elks of the World. Also Past Matron of Ionic Chapter # 15, O. E. S., P.H.A of Bridgeton, the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club and Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians. She was an avid reader and also loved to travel.

Survivors include: one son, Luther S. Pierce, Jr. and his wife Ivanette, Deerfield Township; three grandchildren, Cathy Zehrung and her husband Dave, Silverton, Or., LuAnn Echevarria and her husband Edwin, Millville and Luther S. Pierce, III and his wife Dawn of Upper Deerfield Township; two sisters, Josephine Bevans, Chester, PA. and Ethel Jordan, Far Rockaway, N.Y.; four great grandchildren, Dionisia Echevarria, Antonio Echevarria, Danielle Zehrung and Luther S. Pierce, IV, along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Pierce, two brothers, Clifford Fouat and LeRoy Johnson and one sister, Mildred Johnson.

Funeral services will be on Saturday morning, August 28th at 11:00 O’clock in the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township. Burial will be made in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends will be received on Friday evening between 7:00 and 9:00 O’clock and on Saturday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 O’clock.
