Phyllis C. Martin, 61, of Bridgeton, died
Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, in South Jersey HealthCare-Bridgeton. She had been
in failing health for the past 5 years.
Mrs. Martin was born in Penns Grove and was the daughter of the late Charles
H. and Mary Straughen Toms. She had lived in the Bridgeton area since 1958
and prior to that had resided in Penns Grove.
Retired since 1988, she had been self-employed in child care. She had also
previously worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Co., Wheaton Glass Co. and as an
auto mechanic for Champion Brands, Inc.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert L. Martin; two sons, Christopher
Carman and Thomas Taylor, both of Bridgeton; two daughters, DeAnne Durham,
Cedarville and Dawn Moran, Bridgeton; one brother, John C. Toms, Tennessee;
three sisters, Patricia Lemermann, Fairton, Elizabeth Dupper, Penns Grove
and Sarah Virginia Rodriguez, Cedarville; ten grandchildren and one great
granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Carman,
one daughter, Jodi Lyn Carman and four sisters, Lillian Toms, Edna VanNote,
Charlene Toms and Bertha Miguel.
Funeral services and burial will be private, at the convenience of the
family. There will be no public viewing. Funeral arrangements are under the
direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township.
