John “Rod” Hughes, age 78, of Vineland
died unexpectedly on Friday, January 23, 2004. He had been in declining
health for the past two years.
Born in Philadelphia, the son of the late
Alphonso and Dora Pierce Hughes he was the husband of Patricia Mosley
Hughes. He had been a Vineland resident for 44 years and prior to that had
resided in Bridgeton.
Before his retirement he had been
employed as a truck driver with the Tredway Express Company of Hightstown
for 44 years.
Mr. Hughes was a graduate of the
Bridgeton High School Class of 1943.
In addition to his wife, he is survived
by two daughters, H. Elayne Sama of Vineland and Patricia Anne Eschbach and
her husband David of Lancaster, PA; three sons, Benjamin Leroy Coker, Jr.,
Terry John Coker and his wife Carol and Jerry Wayne Coker, Sr. all of
Vineland; two nieces, Judith Upshur of New Castle, DE and Michelle Hughes of
Millville and 9 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Peter A.L.
Hughes, a sister, Dorothy Upshur and a brother, Alphonso Romain Hughes.
Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, January 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 186
East Commerce Street, Bridgeton.
Burial will take place at Cedar Hill
Cemetery in Cedarville.
Friends will be received on Thursday from
10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the services at the church.

contributions in Mr. Hughes memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,
225 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. Arrangements
