Isaac D. “Ike Durrell”
McDowell, Sr., 70, of Upper Deerfield Township, died Wednesday, Jan. 14,
2004, in South Jersey Healthcare-Bridgeton. He had been in failing health
for 8 years and seriously ill for the past year.
Mr. McDowell was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Paul T.
McDowell and Elizabeth Lemke McDowell. He had been a resident of Upper
Deerfield since 1976 and prior to that had lived in Plattsburg, N. Y.
He was a career veteran of the U. S. Air Force where he served for 26
years, retiring in 1976. He served during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam
Conflict and was stationed in Korea in 1952 and also in Guam. After his
retirement from the service he had been employed with Wheaton Glass Co. in
Millville for 16 years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Guam and loved football and baseball.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Brown McDowell; four daughters,
Patricia A. Lloyd, Bridgeton, Mary E. Harris, Millville, Estella A.
Williams, Fortescue and Carolyn A. McDowell, Upper Deerfield; four sons,
Merle L. McDowell, Woodbury, Robert J. McDowell, Laurel Lake, Isaac D.
McDowell, Jr., Millville and Shawn A. McDowell; three sisters, Stella M.
Shaffer, Bridgeton, Mary E. Cappelli, Bridgeton and Helen L. Kenny,
Millville; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Leon McDowell, Paul McDowell, Jr. and
Robert McDowell; two sisters, Sadie Gressman and Alice Kubiak and a
grandson, Drew Malinowski.
Rev. Donald Harrington will conduct funeral services in the Padgett
Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Tuesday
afternoon, Jan. 20, at 1:00 O’clock. Burial will be in the Cumberland
County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Township. Friends will be received
Tuesday between 11:00 and 1:00 O’clock, prior to the services at the
