H. B. “Pete” Smith, 76, of Upper
Deerfield Township, died Sunday morning, June 6, 2004, in South Jersey
Healthcare-Bridgeton. He had been in failing health for the past 5 months.
Mr. Smith was born in Newport, Tenn. and was the son of the late Jeter and
Rosalie Suggs Smith. He had resided in Upper Deerfield for 14 years and had
been a Bridgeton area resident for 58 years.
He is the present owner and was one of the founding partners of S. W. K
Enterprises, located at Carll’s Corner in Upper Deerfield Township. Prior to
that he had been employed with the former Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in
Bridgeton for 35 years and was a shift supervisor at the time of their
closing.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during
World War Two. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife, Opal Delp Smith; two nieces, Kimberley Delp,
Bridgeton and Deborah Delp, Elmer and a sister-in-law, Kathy Delp,
Bridgeton.
Funeral services and burial will be private, at the convenience of the
family. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers the family
suggests contributions, in Mr. Smith memory, to the American Cancer Society,
1400 West Landis Ave., Vineland, N. J. 08360. Funeral arrangements are under
