Billy G. Shumate, 66, of Bridgeton, died
Monday, March 8, 2004 at his home. His death was unexpected.
Mr. Shumate was born in Tipple, West Virginia, the son of the late Leland W.
and Arnett P. Cook Shumate. He was the husband of Loretta G. Workman
Shumate. He had been a Bridgeton resident for the past 37 years, moving here
from West Virginia.
Retired for the past 4 years, he had formerly been employed with Woodruff
Energy in Bridgeton for 22 years. Prior to that he had worked for Agway in
Bridgeton.
Mr. Shumate was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United
States Air Force. He enjoyed working in his yard and helping his family,
neighbors and friends.
Survivors include: his wife, Loretta G. Workman Shumate; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Steven Shumate and his wife Julie of Bridgeton, Myron
Shumate and his wife Janice of Deerfield Twp.; two daughters, Beverly Lynn
Howard, Upper Deerfield Twp. and Kathy Freas, Hopewell Twp.; two sisters,
Geraldine Wheaton, Bridgeton and Myrt Harrelson, Clayton; four
grandchildren, Stephanie Shumate, Ashley Freas, Tyler Shumate and Megan
Shumate, his former son-in-law, Richard Freas and several nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ronald Howard and a
grandson, Gregory Shumate.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning, March 11, at 11:00
O’clock in the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield
Township. Burial will be in the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery,
Hopewell Township. Friends will be received Wednesday evening between 6:00
