Russell D. Stretch, 76, of Hopewell
Township, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, in South Jersey Healthcare Regional
Medical Center. He had been in failing health for the past 2 years.
The husband of Mary Bacon Stretch, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son
of the late Emery and Lillie Garrison Stretch. He had lived in Hopewell
Township for 59 years and prior to that had resided in the Greenwich area.
Prior to his retirement in 1985, he had been employed as a mill-wright with
E. I. DuPont Co. Chambers Works in Deepwater for 25 years. Before that had
had operated a family dairy farm with his father for a number of years.
He had been affiliated with Cohansey Baptist Church and was a veteran of the
U. S. Army Air Force, serving with the occupation forces in Japan, after
World War Two. He loved traveling and being in his R. V. After his
retirement he was well known for operating his backhoe.
Besides his wife, survivors include: one son, David R. Stretch and his wife
Lisa, Pemberton; twin daughters, Nancy C. Baker and her husband Jerold W.,
Hopewell Township and Peggy J. Stretch and her fiancée Alan Maier, Roadstown;
one sister, Alice Moore, Woodstown and four grandchildren, Lucas E. Stretch
and his wife Kelly, Pemberton, Joshua D. Stretch, Pemberton, Andrew W.
Baker, Hopewell Township and Sarah a. Baker, Hopewell Township. He as also
preceded in death by a son, Adam M. Stretch and a brother, Emery Stretch,
Jr.
Rev. Peter Ely will conduct funeral services in the Padgett Funeral Home,
1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday morning, Oct.
2, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell
Township. Friends will be received Saturday morning between 9:30 and 11:00
O’clock, prior to the services at the funeral home. For those who desire the
