William H. Alcorn, Jr.
 

William H. Alcorn, Jr., 80, of Port Elizabeth, formerly of Newport, died at his home Friday morning, April 22, 2005, after a brief illness.

The husband of Ellen Garrison Alcorn, he was born in Port Norris and was the son of the late William H. and Isabel Osborne Alcorn. He had lived in Port Elizabeth for the past 4 years and prior to that had been a resident of Newport for 50 years.

Prior to his retirement, Bill was a self-employed electrician and had owned and operated Alcorn Electric in Newport for many years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Elizabeth and the P. B. O. # 580, Elks Lodge in Millville. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served on the U. S. S. Porter and the U. S. S. Stoddard during World War Two.

Besides his wife, survivors include: two brothers, Samuel Alcorn and Burton Alcorn, both of Millville; one sister, Minerva Camp, Millville; one grandson, John Workman and his wife Stephanie, Millville; one great grandson, Evan Matthew Workman, Millville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Page Alcorn in 1998 and two sisters, Flora Rothbottom and Lenore Saul.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main St., Cedarville, on Wednesday morning, April 27th, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Newport Baptist Cemetery, Newport. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday morning between 9:30 and 11:00 O’clock. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions, in Mr. Alcorn's memory to the Port Elizabeth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 101, Port Elizabeth, NJ 08348.
