Jewel S. Harris
 

Jewel S. Harris, 79, of Dudley, N. C., formerly of Newark and Bridgeton, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, in the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N. C. He had been in failing health for the past year.

The husband of the late Lillian Covey Harris, he was born in St. Augustine, Fl. and was the son of the late Lonnie and Emma Wright Harris. He had been a resident of Dudley for the past 5 years.

Retired since 1990, Jewel was a truck driver by trade and had been employed by Mailing Services in Hillside for several years.

He was a veteran of World War Two, serving with the U. S. Army and was a member of the Newark Masonic Lodge # 9.

Survivors include: three daughters, Althea Bridges and her husband Gerald, Dudley, N. C., Eunice P. Barnes, Goldsboro, N. C. and Frances Furguson, Maryland; three sons, Jewel S. Harris, Jr., Sylvania, Ga., Anthony L. Harris, Goldsboro, N. C. and David Furguson of Maryland; one sister, Sarah James, Bridgeton; twenty four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a close friend, Rhoda Edness of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Norman, William, Lonnie, Ellis and James Harris and two sisters, Evelyn Williams and Ollie German.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Monday afternoon, April 25, at 1:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday afternoon between 12:00 and 1:00 O’clock.
