Gordon C. Sheppard
 

Gordon C. Sheppard, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 80, of Hopewell Township, died Monday morning, February 28, 2005 at his home. He had been in declining health for the past month.

Born in the Jones Island section of Lawrence Township, the son of the late Frank and Verna Mae Noble Sheppard he was the husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Bell Sheppard. He had been a Hopewell Township resident for 50 years and prior to that had resided in Bridgeton and Lawrence Township.

Before his retirement Mr. Sheppard had been employed with the former Owens Illinois Glass Company as an electrician for 33 years until the plant closed. He then worked as a machinist with Glen Striedolph Tool Manufacturing in Stow Creek. He had also previously worked at the E.I. DuPont Chambers Works and the former Aberfoyle Company in Bridgeton.

He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hopewell and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeton. He was a graduate with the Bridgeton High School Class of 1942.

Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past January 30th.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jean Thompson of Upper Deerfield Township and Eileen Bell and her husband Clinton of Seymour, CT; a daughter in law, Sandra Sheppard of Vassar, MI, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Rev. Richard Sheppard and two brothers, Eldon and Paul Sheppard.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME. 160 Main Street, Cedarville on Friday morning, March 4th at 11 a.m.

Burial will be made at Old Stone Church Cemetery in Fairfield Township.

Friends may call on Friday morning one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Mr. Sheppards memory be made to either HospiceCare of South Jersey, 2848 South Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360 or the First Church of the Nazarene, 350 West Park Drive, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
