Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Pitts, aged 72, of
Bridgeton, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, in the Millville Center of Genesis
Eldercare. She had been a patient at the Center for 3 days and had been in
failing health for the past 3 years.
The wife of Charles Pitts, she was born in Dothan, Ala. and was the daughter
of the late Eddie L. and Ollie Mae Thompson Weems. She had been a Bridgeton
resident for 42 years and prior to that had lived in Florida.
Rev. Dr. Pitts was pastor of Miracle Temple Church in Bridgeton. She
received her Doctor of Divinity from the Jameson Evangelistic Assoc. in
Drexel Hill, Pa., in 1991.
Rev. Pitts was a foster parent for the State of New Jersey for over 40
years, having cared for numerous children.
Besides her husband, survivors include: 6 daughters, Otelia Miller, Port
Salerno, Fla., Lois Pitts, Bridgeton, Andrea Robinson, Bridgeton, Fuesha
Ross, Atlantic City, Vicki Schulz, Millville and Charmaine Pitts, Bridgeton;
eight sons, Charles Pitts, North Carolina and Johnie Pitts, Arden Robinson,
Leander Pitts, Jermaine Pitts, John Pitts, Brian Pitts and Michael Pitts,
all of Bridgeton; one brother, Choice Weems, Williamstown; one sister, Mary
Ward, Pompano Beach, Fla.; sixteen grandchildren and three great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirly Joyner; a
son, Clarence Pitts; two brothers, Cherrie Weems and Thomas Weems and a
sister, Olla Bell Slater.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 15, at 1:00 O’clock,
in the Miracle Temple Church, 40 Bank St., Bridgeton. Burial will be in
Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the
church Saturday afternoon between 12:00 and 1:00 O’clock. Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper
Deerfield Township.
