James G. Homan, age 65, of Greenwich died
early Thursday morning, July 7, 2005 at his home.
Jim was born in Bridgeton and was the son
of the late James N. and Barbara Schofield Homan. He was the husband of
MaryLou Fisher Homan and had been a Greenwich resident for 43 years.
He was a graduate of the Bridgeton High
School Class of 1958 and graduated from the Bordentown Military Academy in
1959.
He had been employed with the Bridgeton
Evening News for 33 years having started in the Circulation Department,
advancing to Classified Ad Manager and then becoming the Director of
Advertising. While heading the advertising department he won several awards
from the New Jersey Press Assoc. He was awarded first place for General
Excellence for Display Advertising in the State of New Jersey. He had
attended both the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and the
American Press Institute in Virginia for newspaper management.
After leaving the newspaper field he
began a second vocation in insurance and attended schools of insurance in
Cherry Hill, and Chicago where he became licensed in all phases of insurance
coverage. He had been employed with both the J.A. Mariano Agency and Barton
F. Sharp Insurance Company in the Bridgeton area. Later he became an
independent agent specializing in health insurance and was also employed by
the Delaware River and Bay Authority in the toll department.
An active past member of the Bridgeton
Jaycees, he enjoyed duck hunting and was a very active member of Ducks
Unlimited. He loved fishing and golf and was a former member of the Holly
Hills Golf Club. He has also served as a member of the South Jersey Hospital
Golf Tournament Committee for 10 years as raffle chairman.
A 12 year member of the Greenwich
Township Board of Education, he had served two terms as President of the
Board and also had been a member of the Cumberland Regional Board of
Education. He held membership at Central United Methodist Church in
Bridgeton.
Jim was a devoted father and grandfather and family was the most important
thing to him. He will be remembered as a generous, fun loving and
compassionate father, grandfather and friend.
He was a devoted father to son James G.
Homan, Jr. and his wife Sue of Hopewell Twp.; daughters Kelley Homan Cross
of Shiloh and Kimberly Homan Wood and husband Donald of Cedarville; four
grandchildren, Carey A. Cross, Megan E. Cross, Caroline E. Wood and Aimee S.
Homan; an aunt, Marian Schofield with whom he lived for four years; a
brother in law, Olin Fisher, Jr. and his wife Carol; a sister in law, Mary
Ella Bergmann and husband Jim and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the
PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on
Tuesday, July 12th at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Strope, pastor of the West
Park United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be made at Overlook Cemetery
in Bridgeton.
Friends may call on Monday evening from
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to
the services at the funeral home.
