Walter Dayton, Jr., 75, of Vineland,
formerly of Bridgeton, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, in South Jersey Regional
Medical Center, Vineland, where he had been a patient for 4 ˝ weeks. He had
been in failing health for the past 2 years.
The husband of Willie Hoops Dayton, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son
of the late Walter and Anna Turpin Dayton. He had been a Vineland resident
for 25 years and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton.
Prior to his retirement 15 years ago, due to poor health, he had been
employed with Wheaton Glass Co. in Millville. Before that he had worked at
the former Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton for 34 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Air Force.
Walter attended the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church. He was an avid golfer
and hobbyist and was an outstanding athlete while attending Bridgeton High
School.
Besides his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Margie D. Yellin and
her husband Jack, Bridgeton, Georgeanna Dooley and her husband Alan, Mt.
Holly and Donna Mattos, Florida; six grandchildren, Jeff Dooley, Nathan
Yellin, Brandi Yellin, Sherri Yellin, George Solomon and Tommy Solomon and
two great grandchildren, Cameron & Bria Yellin. He was preceded in death by
a brother, Harry Dayton and his twin brother, Wilbur Dayton.
Rev. Franklin Stanley will conduct funeral services in the Padgett Funeral
Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Thursday morning,
March 31, at 10:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park,
Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday
evening between 7:00 and 8:30 O’clock.
