Henry P. Theander, 82, of Fairfield
Township, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, in S. J. R. M. C., Vineland. He had
been in failing health for the past 6 months.
The husband of the late Leone Russell Theander, who passed away in Nov. of
2003, he was born in Abington, Pa. and was the son of the late Henry W. and
Snefrid Christenson Theander. After his retirement 18 years ago, he moved to
Fairfield Township and prior to that had lived in Clementon. Henry had lived
in Norway as a young boy.
Prior to World War Two, he had been a fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad.
After the war he settled in Clementon with Leone, his wife of 57 years. He
was a union carpenter and later started his own construction and home
remodeling business. He had also been building inspector in Clementon.
Mr. Theander was a veteran of World War Two, serving in the U. S. Army with
the 164th Infantry Construction Engineers in the South Pacific Theater. He
had also been part of the occupying forces in Japan after V J Day.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Clementon and recently
attended Fairton United Methodist Church. Henry was an avid golfer and had
been a member of the Cohanzick Country Club for 15 years. He was also a
member of the Moose Lodge in Clementon and the Bridgeton V. F. W. He loved
to sing, dance and play pool and loved to laugh and spend time with his
family.
Survivors include: three children, Doug French and his wife Diane of
Clayton, N. C., Karen Cowen and her husband William of Newfield and Lynn Ott
and her husband Albert of Franklinville; three sisters, Mary Hoeft, Clifton,
Valerie Sabetta and her husband Gino, Wenonah and Terry Scott and her
husband Martin, Pomona; five grandchildren, Donna Smith, Doreen French,
Dienna Smith, William Cowen and Wendy Vickers and numerous great
grandchildren.
Rev. Charles Mitchell will conduct funeral services in the PADGETT FUNERAL
HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Monday morning,
May 9, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Cumberland County Veterans
Cemetery, Hopewell Township. Written condolences may be sent to the family
