Myrtle E. Hitchner, 94, of Hopewell
Township, died at home on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005. She had been in failing
health for the past 2 years.
The wife of the late Eli P. Hitchner, she was born in Chester, Pa. and
was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Sadie Buchanna Emery. She had
lived with her daughter for the past 2 years and had been a resident of
Hopewell Township since 1954. Myrtle had been a resident of the
Bridgeton area for most of her life.
Prior to her retirement in 1974, she had been employed with the former
Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton for 33 years.
She was an avid gardener and loved to fish.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mabel E. Spencer, Hopewell Township,
Darlene J. Fleetwood, Lawrence Township; and Kay F. Jacquet, Millville;
four sons, Eli P. Hitchner, Millville,William R. Hitchner, Millville,
Robert L. Hitchner, Fairton and John H. Hitchner, Fairton; nineteen
grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren and one great-great
grandson. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Hitchner, Jr.; a
great granddaughter, Nicole Grossman; three brothers, Edward B. Emery,
Walter B. Emery and Clarence F. Emery and two sisters, Jennie Linn and
Olia Farrady.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 12:00
O’clock noon. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. A viewing
will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning between 11:00 and
