Melvin L. Lane

Melvin L. Lane, age 70, of Hopewell Township died Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2006 at his home. He had been in declining health for the past two months.

Born in Welch, West Virginia the son of the late Hazel (Beman) Lane-Bevill-Simpkins and the late George Lane, he was the husband of Patsy Damron Lane.

He had been a Hopewell Township resident for 49 years and prior to that had resided in Bridgeton.

Mr. Lane was a veteran of the United States Army and had worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Delaware for 14 years and the Owens Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton for 29 years before his retirement.

An avid sportsman he enjoyed hunting, bowling and softball and had played with the industrial leagues for several years. He was a member of the Salem Post of the V.F.W. and the Fifth Ward Athletic Club in Bridgeton.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Lodesia L. Murphy and her husband Robert of Millville; two sons, Gregory L. Lane of Bridgeton and Derek T. Lane of Millville; a brother, Douglas Dwight Bevill and his wife Cathy of Millville; four sisters, Emma Pettit and her husband Albert of Fairton, Patricia Penn of Cape Coral, FL., Phyllis Davis and her husband Lawrence of Grundy, VA and Zelda Savage of Texas and five grandchildren, Shanin B. Murphy, Shawn M. Murphy, Matthew R. Murphy, Christie M. Lane and Derek T. Lane, II. He was predeceased by a brother, James Bevill.

Memorial services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Tuesday, August 29th at 1 p.m.

Cremation and inurnment took place at Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township.
