Evelyn M. Bruce, 76, of Bridgeton,
died in the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on Monday, Dec. 18,
2006. She had been in declining health for the past 5 months and a
patient in the hospital for 3 days.
The wife of Hollis A. Bruce, she was born in Ferrell and was the
daughter of the late Walter Catlin and Sadie Bachelor Catlin. She had
been a resident of Bridgeton for the past 52 years and prior to that had
lived in Elmer and Harrisonville.
Prior to her retirement, due to illness, Evelyn had been employed as a
short order cook at Angie’s Bridgeton Grill for many years. Prior to
that she had worked at the Towne Tavern in Bridgeton.
She was a member of Pearl Street Baptist Church in Bridgeton.
Besides her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Ann
Whitehead, California and Sharon Rempfer, Fairton; one son, Hollis A.
Bruce, Jr., Bridgeton; and two sisters, Margaret Zabaski, Elmer and
Sarah Black, Swedesboro. She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Barbara J. Bruce; a son, Michael Bruce; three brothers, Walter Catlin,
Elmer Catlin and Sam Catlin and three sisters, Bertha Thompson, Mabel
Rohrman and Mary Catlin.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Friday morning, Dec. 22, at
11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. A viewing
will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning between 10:00 and
