Berty A. Henry, 65, of Bridgeton,
died unexpectedly in the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006.
The husband of C. Frances Thompson Henry, he was born in St. Ann,
Jamaica and was the son of the late David Henry and Marion Fullerton
Henry. He had been a resident of Bridgeton for the past 34 years, moving
here from Glassboro.
Berty had formerly been employed Seabrook Farms and Owens-Illinois Glass
Co., where he retired on disability.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Cedarville, where he was
active as a member of the men’s choir and served as a trustee and deacon
at the church. He was also a member of Christian Men’s Fellowship of
Cumberland County and had served as hospital chaplain for his church.
Besides his wife, survivors include: two sons, James A. Thompson,
Bridgeton and Alex B. Henry (Anecia) of Bridgeton; two daughters,
Carlene Green (Uriah), Vineland and Annette Thompson, Delaware; a
step-son, Isiah Cross (Liz), Vineland; three brothers, Alton Henry,
Portimore, Jamaica, Owen Henry, St. Ann, Jamaica and Wesley Henry,
Brooklyn, N. Y.; two sisters, Sarah Holmes, York Castle, Jamaica and
Edith Kerr, Kingston, Jamaica; four grandchildren; one great
granddaughter; two uncles, one aunt; a host of nieces and nephews and
cousins and many great nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends;
also a special friend, Deacon Robert King (Jerry) of Vineland. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Herbert S. Henry.
Funeral services will be held in New Hope Baptist Church, 37 Schaffer
Ave., Cedarville, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 30, at 1:00 O’clock.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cedarville. A viewing will be
held at the church on Saturday between 11:00 A. M. and 1:00 P. M.
