Eugene I. “Gene” Holding, 58, of
Upper Deerfield Township, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in the Veterans
Administration Center, Ellsmere, Del. He had been in declining health
for 5 years and a patient in the hospital for the past 1 ˝ weeks.
The husband of Kathleen Stahlberger Holding, he was born in Cedarville
and was the son of the late Irving E. Holding and Elsie James Holding.
He had lived at his present address since 1971 and prior to that had
been a resident of Shiloh.
Prior to his retirement, due to failing health, he had been employed as
a truck driver with D. N. W. Trucking Co. of Millville, for three years
and with Heartland Express Co. Prior to that he had been employed with
7-Up Bottling Co. in Bridgeton for over 30 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving with the U. S. Army
and was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed bowling in years past.
Besides his wife: survivors include: one son, Kevin Eugene Holding,
Upper Deerfield Township; two sisters, Betty Cook, Cedarville and
Margaret Vazquez, Vineland; one brother, George James, Bridgeton and one
aunt, Margaret Holding, Hopewell Township. He was preceded in death by
two sisters, Alice Davis and Kathryn Rogers.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the Cumberland County
Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Township, on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 28, at
2:00 O’clock. Burial will follow the services. There will be no public
viewing.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Mr. Holding’s
memory be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 216 Haddon Avenue,
Suite 328, Westmont, NJ 08108.
