Joseph H. “Poke” Loatman, Jr., 79, of
Bridgeton, died on Friday morning, Dec. 1, 2006. He had been in failing
health for the past 6 months.
Born in Greenwich Township, he was the son of Rebecca Mosley Wright of
Alloway Township and the late Joseph H. Loatman. The husband of Florence
Young Loatman of Bridgeton, he had been a lifetime resident of
Bridgeton.
Prior to his retirement, due to poor health, he had been a driver with
the South State Co. in Fairfield Township for 31 years.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict
and was stationed in Germany.
“Poke” was a member of the American Legion, Shoemaker Post # 95, in
Bridgeton.
Besides his mother and wife, survivors include: six daughters, Carolyn
Loatman, Florida City, Fla., Deborah Loatman, Bridgeton, Antranett
“Toni” Sease, Bridgeton, Colleen “Cindy” Loatman, Atlantic City, Tammy
Sapsai, Millville and Lorie Sutton Bridgeton; three sons, Joseph H.
Loatman, III, Vineland, Darryl Loatman, Bridgeton and Joseph Yearicks,
Bridgeton; his companion of 33 years, Madeline “Ronnie” Yearicks,
Bridgeton; one brother, Jerry Loatman, Hopewell Township; four sisters,
Lilly Loatman, Bridgeton; Alice Reese, Newark, Jacqueline McGill-Smith,
Los Angeles, Cal. and Eva Caesar, Alloway Township; thirty one
grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Loatman, Sr., Ronald
Loatman, Barry Loatman and Hartley Loatman; two sisters, Edith Loatman
and Hazel Loatman; two grandsons, Arian Loatman and Detrick Harris and a
great grandson, Tyrone Loatman, Jr.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 7, at
1:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery,
Hopewell Township. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on
Thursday between 11:00 A. M. and 1:00 P. M. Written condolences may be
