Mary A. Scarlato, 89, of Cedarville,
died in the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on Monday, Dec. 11,
2006, after a brief illness. She had been a patient at the hospital for
3 days.
The wife of the late Anthony G. Scarlato, she was born in Bridgeton and
was the daughter of the late Antonio and Francesca Ferullo Macera. She
had lived in Cedarville for 72 years, coming from Bridgeton.
Prior to her retirement, Mary had been the bookkeeper for the family
business, Scarlato Oil Service in Cedarville. Previous to that she had
been employed with the former Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton.
Several years ago she had been a dispatcher for the Lawrence Township
Volunteer Fire Co.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church of Cedarville
and the Alter and Rosary Society of the church. She was also a 67 year
member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 108 in Bridgeton, joining in
1939, where she had a College of Regents Degree, Star Recorder Degree
and was a Past Deputy Grand Regent. She had transferred her membership
to Vineland and was currently a member of the Millville Lodge. Mary was
also president of the Lawrence Township Senior Center.
Survivors include: two sons, Anthony G. Scarlato, Jr. and his wife
Carla, Fort Worth, Tex. and Michael J. Scarlato and his wife Sharon,
Cedarville; one daughter, Jennie J. Gelardo, Newburgh, Ind.; one
brother, Samuel Macera, Waterville, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren; twenty
four great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Besides
her husband she was preceded in death by five brothers, John Macera,
Paul Macera, Dominick Macera, Joseph Macera and Michael Macera; a
sister, Florence “Skeets” Bacon; a grandson, Paul Gelardo and three
great grandchildren, Alex, Derrick, Jr. and John.
Her Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic
Church, 367 Main St., Cedarville, on Friday morning, Dec. 15th, at 10:00
O’clock. A viewing will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Thursday evening, Dec. 14,
between 6:00 and 8:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery,
Millville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mrs.
Scarlato’s memory, to the Lawrence Township E.M.S, P.O. Box 369,
