Edward R. Trout, age 82, of Upper
Deerfield Township, died Wednesday morning, December 27, 2006 at his
home. He had been in declining health for the past six months.
Born in Bridgeton, the son of the
late Daniel and Hester Randalph Trout he was the husband of the late
Nancy Smallwood Trout who died in 1992. He married Nancy in April of
1947 and had been an Upper Deerfield Township resident most of his life.
A veteran of World War Two, Mr. Trout
served in the United States Navy with the “Seabees” and was stationed on
the Aleutian Islands. He was involved in the invasion of Okinawa in
April of 1945 and was present when the Atom Bomb was dropped being based
325 miles from its impact.
He worked for the Coca Cola Bottling
Company in Bridgeton for several years and in 1946 began a 36 year
career with the Atlantic City Electric Company as a lineman and trouble
man and then a supervisor before his retirement.
A graduate of the Bridgeton High
School Class of 1942 he played football and was All-County in 1941. He
and Jim Gubbine were co-captains of the team in 1941 when they defeated
Collingswood 6-0 for the first time in 21 years. He also played for the
Bridgeton Indians after World War Two and was a member of the Millville
American Legion Post 82 since 1947.
Ed managed the Food Fair Little
League Team for 20 years and won several championships in the early
1950’s and was involved with the lighting several of the area
recreational fields and had also worked for 8 years caring for the North
Cumberland Little League fields.
He enjoyed crabbing and fishing at
Reeds Beach where he and his father in law built a cottage in 1955 and
later built a home in Upper Deerfield Township where he still lived.
Surviving are a son, Russell Sage
Trout and his wife Janet of Stow Creek Township; a daughter, Linda C.
Trout of Millville and two grandchildren, Laura and Danna Trout both of
Stow Creek Township. He will be greatly missed by pets and companions
Sam, Allie, Piper, Mugzee and Jake.
Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday, January 2nd at 11 a.m. at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township.
Burial will take place at Laurel Lawn
Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 10
to 11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
