Earl G. Holton, Sr., 80, of
Pittsgrove Township, died at his home on Friday evening, Feb. 24, 2006.
He had been in failing health for the past 6 months.
The husband of Agnes Blizzard Holton, he was born in Bridgeton and was
the son of the late Ralph and Mabel Borden Holton. He had been a
resident of Pittsgrove Township for the past 53 years and prior to that
had lived in Bridgeton.
Retired for the past 15 years, he had formerly been a chemical salesman
for several years and had been employed with B. A. S. F. Corp. in North
Jersey. He had also formerly been employed in real estate sales with the
Ace Real Estate Agency and had been the Housing and Zoning Officer for
Pittsgrove Township.
Earl was a veteran of World War Two, serving with the U. S. Navy .
Active in the Pacific Theater, he served on two different submarines,
the USS Dragonet and the USS Ice Fish where he received the American
Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War Two Victory
Medal, Philippine Liberation Stars and the Submarine Combat Insignia
Star.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past 1795, Moose
Lodge # 1054, American Legion, Shoemaker Post # 95, Deerfield Elks
Lodge, a charter member of the Centerton Volunteer Fire Co. and a former
member of Odd Fellows Lodge.
Besides his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Sharon L. Myers
and her husband Ed, Pittsgrove, Susan L. May and her husband Wayne,
Pittsgrove and Sandy L. Whitson and her husband Jann, Upper Deerfield
Township; one son, Earl G. Holton, Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen,
Pittsgrove; one sister, Ethel Moore, Bridgeton; nine grandchildren and
six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, at
11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. A viewing
will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday morning between 10:00 and
11:00 O’clock. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to
