Lauriston E. Johnson, 76, of
Bridgeton, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, in South Jersey Regional Medical
Center. He had been failing health for the past 2 months.
The husband of the late Chineta Gordon Johnson, he was born in St.
Andrew’s Parish, Jamaica and was the son of the late Edward and Melvina
Stewart Johnson. He had been a Bridgeton resident for the past 57 years.
Prior to his retirement he had been employed with the former Murbeck Co.
in Bridgeton and also with the City of Bridgeton. He had also worked for
the Cumberland County Meals on Wheels Program.
He had been a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Bridgeton for over
40 years.
Survivors include: one daughter, Yvonne Jennett, Bridgeton; three sons,
Samuel Johnson, Brooklyn, N. Y., Richard Johnson and Rodney Johnson,
both of Bridgeton; one brother, Urel Johnson, Jamaica; one sister,
Esther Orchard, Bristol, England; nine grandchildren and six great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Johnson.
Funeral services will be held in Bethel Pentecostal Church, South
Avenue, Bridgeton, on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 12:00 O’clock noon. Burial
will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Hopewell Township. A viewing will
be held in the church on Saturday morning between 10:00 and 12:00
O’clock. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT
