Neil H. Dayton, Sr., 62, of Stow
Creek Township, died at his home on Friday morning, July 28, 2006. He
had been in failing health for the past 8 months.
The husband of Donna Jess Dayton, he was born in Bridgeton and was the
son of the late Herbert F. and Ruth Mills Dayton. He had been a lifetime
resident of Stow Creek Township.
Neil had owned and operated Dayton’s Nursery in Stow Creek Township for
35 years. He had formerly been employed with Shoemaker Dairy, Agway
Petroleum Co. and had been a carpenter with Ted Halter.
An avid hunter, he was a member of the 200 Pound Deer Club. He loved
wood working and raised wood ducks as a hobby. He was the first pitcher
to throw out a ball in the West Cumberland Little League in Wynn Park.
He was a member of Aldine United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Kimmie L. Ecret and
her husband Dennis, Canton; one son, Neil H. Dayton, Jr. and his wife
Dorothy, Stow Creek Township; one sister, Judith D. Massey, Stow Creek
Township; one brother-in-law, Sandy R. Jess, Mannington; three
grandchildren, Amber Sowers, Meggin Ecret and Neil H. Dayton, III; one
niece, Cindy Massey and one nephew, David Massey. He was preceded in
death by at grandson, Benjamin Ecret.
Rev. David Bailey will conduct graveside funeral services in Fernwood
Memorial Park, Hopewell Township, on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, at 12:30
O’clock. A viewing will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME. 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Tuesday morning between 10:00
