Charles S. Elmer, age 94, of
Bridgeton died early Sunday morning, July 23, 2006 at Genesis-Millville
Center. He had been in declining health for the past year and a half.
Born in Bridgeton on January 5, 1912,
he was the son of the late Wilbur and Emma Ackley Elmer and was the
husband of the late Violet Springer Elmer. He had been a Bridgeton
resident his entire life.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Elmer
had owned and operated Elmer’s Fuel Oil Service in Bridgeton for over 25
years. He had also been a bus driver for athletic events with the
Bridgeton Board of Education for many years. In his earlier years of
employment Mr. Elmer was a butcher with the former Levison’s Grocery
Store, DeMaio’s Market and Robinson’s Market all in Bridgeton for over
25 years.
He was a member of West Park United
Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Mauricetown Gun Club, enjoyed
bowling and was an avid fisherman all of his life.
Survivors include two sons, Charles
O. Elmer and his wife Margie of Rochester, Michigan and Melvin H. Elmer
and his wife Harriett of Bridgeton, 9 grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by
two sisters, Carrie Elmer and Sophronia Elmer and three brothers,
Benjamin, John and James Elmer.
Funeral services will be held at the
PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township
on Thursday, July 27th at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Overlook
Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Friends may call on Thursday from 10
to 11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
