Pearl Lacotte

Pearl Lacotte, 88, of Hopewell Township, NJ died on July 3, 2006 in South Jersey Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She had been in declining health for several years.

Mrs. Lacotte was born in Madison, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Peter Kenney and Izell Deans Kenney. At a young age her family moved to a ranch in South Dakota and later to Dividing Creek, NJ. The wife of the late George Lacotte, they had been married for 64 years. Since his death in 2003 she resided with her daughter Joan and son-in-law Bob Mathis in Hopewell Township until entering the Cumberland Manor in April of this year. She graduated with the Class of 1937 from Bridgeton High School. Later she continued her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1970. She worked at the Bridgeton Nursing Home and retired from the Bridgeton Hospital in 1977. Prior to becoming a nurse, she was a homemaker and previously worked at various sewing factories and at Bodine’s Candy Store in Bridgeton.

Pearl was a 4-H leader, active with the Girl Scouts, former President of the Hopewell Township PTA and a volunteer with the West Cumberland Little League. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband George and camped throughout the United States and Canada. Together they traveled to Europe and took several cruises. They spent over 25 years wintering in Florida. Pearl enjoyed being with and caring for her family and had been the care giver for several family members.

Surviving are: a daughter Joan Mathis and her husband Bob of Hopewell Township, and a son Joe Lacotte and his wife Mary Linda of Upper Deerfield, a sister, Ruby Thompson and her husband Eric of Hopewell and a brother Stanley W. Kenney and his wife Dot of Cedarville, sisters-in-law Betty Greiner, Eunice Kenney, and Theresa Bowen and her husband Ty. She leaves grandchildren Laura Coleman and husband Tim, Susan Lacotte, Jim Lacotte, Beth Schofield and husband Rob, Chrissie Johnson and husband Sean and great grandchildren Chris, Jennifer, and Michael Comer, Devin and Amy Schofield. She was predeceased by her brothers Albert, Carl, Chester and Paul Kenney.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Friday morning, July 7th at 10 a.m.

Burial will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton

Friends may call on Friday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
