Charles D. "Alfie" McPherson, Jr.

Charles D. “Alfie” McPherson, Jr., 72, of Alloway, died at his home on Thursday, June 15, 2006. He had been in failing health for the past year.

The husband of Mary C. Hankins McPherson, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Charles D. and Dorothy L. Wood McPherson. He had been a resident of Alloway for the past year and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton and Fairfield Township.

Prior to his retirement he had been employed with the Bridgeton Board of Education for 14 years, as a custodian at Bridgeton High School. He had previously worked at Walt’s Bus Service in Pedricktown for 6 years and had operated the former Rutala’s Service Station in Bridgeton.

“Alfie” was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, Class of 1953 and was a former member of the Bridgeton Junior Chamber of Commerce. He retired from the organization as an “Exhausted Rooster.” He was the last president of the P. T. A. of the former South Avenue School in Bridgeton. He enjoyed fishing.

Besides his wife, survivors include: three sons, Charles “Mickey” McPherson, Bridgeton, Tony McPherson, Michigan and David McPherson, Alloway; one daughter, Pat Andrasz, Millville; one brother, Ellis “Bob” McPherson, Bridgeton; two sisters, Charlotte Woodward, Bridgeton and Dale Capps, Hopewell Township; two aunts, Dorothy French, Cedarville and Della McPherson, Newport; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Tuesday afternoon, June 20th, at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
