Hartley R. Loatman, Sr., 75, of
Millville, died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006. The result of
injuries received in at car-truck accident on Route 40 in Pilesgrove
Township, Salem County. His wife Barbara Brown Loatman and daughter
Tatum L. Loatman were also killed in the accident.
Hartley was born in Stow Creek Township and was the son of the late
Joseph Harold Loatman and Rebecca Wright Loatman. He had been a resident
of Millville for 30 years and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton.
He was a tractor-trailer driver and prior to retiring on disability he
had been employed as a driver with National Freight Co. in Vineland for
several years. He had also formerly worked at the Artificial Island.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Army.
Hartley loved fishing.
Survivors include: nine children, Sadie A. Pierce-Harris, South
Plainfield, Hartley R. Loatmen, Jr., Camden, Jeffrey Michael Loatman,
Beaumont, Tex., Vicki L. Jones, Vineland, Karen Vera, Millville, Maxine
J. Graham, Millville, Harlan F. Loatman, Millville, Rodney E. Loatman,
Millville and Tanora S. Loatman, Millville, two brothers, Jerry Loatman,
Hopewell Township and Joseph Loatman, Millville;; four sisters, Lilly
Loatman, Bridgeton, Alice Reese, Newark, Jacqueline McGill-Smith, Los
Angeles, Cal. and Eva Caesar, Alloway Township; forty three
grandchildren and a host of great and great-grandchildren and nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by two other daughters, Wendy Loatman
and Brenda Brown; a son, Marcus Loatman; three brothers, Frank Loatman,
Sr., Ronald Loatman and Barry Loatman and two sisters, Edith Loatman and
Hazel Loatman.
Funeral services will be held in the Glory Tabernacle Church, Buckshutem
Road, Fairfield Township, on Friday morning, Nov. 17, at 11:00 O’clock.
Burial will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
A viewing will be held at the church on Friday morning between 9:00 and
11:00 O’clock. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
