Velma Coombs, 90, of Hopewell
Township, died in the Cumberland Manor on Wednesday morning, Oct. 4,
2006.
The wife of the late Artie Coombs, she was born in Greenwich and was the
daughter of the late John L. Coward, Sr. and Anna Pierce Coward. She had
been a resident of Hopewell Township since 1971 and prior to that had
lived in Fairfield Township and Greenwich.
She and her late husband Artie had operated a farm on Seabreeze Road in
Fairfield Township for several years.
Velma was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She loved
crocheting, making Afghans, traveling to Florida in the winter and had
raised parakeets.
Survivors include: on sister, Alice Carney, Bridgeton and several nieces
and nephews, including her care givers, John A. Coward, Sr. and his wife
Doris of Bridgeton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry
Charles Coward and John L. Coward, Jr. and three sisters, Frances
Sammons, Grace Durham and Minnie Coombs.
Funeral services will be held in the First Church of the Nazarene, West
Park Drive, Hopewell Township, on Saturday morning, Oct. 7, at 11:00
O’clock. Burial will be in Fern wood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township. A
viewing will be held at the church on Saturday morning between 10:00 and
11:00 O’clock. Funeral arrangements ate under the direction of the
