Marian H. Leyman, 87, of Bridgeton,
died on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Joyce
Sawyers, with whom she resided. Her death was unexpected.
The wife of the late Charles F. Leyman, Sr., she was born in Medford,
Mass.. and was the daughter of the late Elisa Turner Stanley and
step-daughter of the late Edwin Stanley.
Mrs. Leyman had been a Bridgeton resident for 66 years, moving here from
Philadelphia, Pa.
Prior to her retirement she had been employed at the former Capt. Bill’s
Seafood Restaurant in Bridgeton for 28 years. She had also assisted her
late husband in the operation of the first Sub Shop in
Bridgeton,“Cholly’s Submarine Shop”, for 14 years.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Bridgeton.
Mrs. Leyman loved her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her daughter, Joyce M Sawyers and her husband Jack,
Bridgeton; three sons, Charles F. Layman, Jr. and his wife Susan,
Hopewell Township, Philip A. Layman and his wife Carol, Upper Deerfield
Township and Dennis P. Layman and his wife Martha, Boswell, Pa.;
seventeen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; son-in-law,
Wayne Burkhart, Williamstown; daughter-in-law, Debbie Heinz, Pittsgrove;
three sisters, Emma Spagnola, Fairton, Gladys Birdsall, Bridgeton and
Kay Looney, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Fran Stanley, Watertown, N. Y.
and Ada Stanley, Hopewell Township and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by a daughter, Anna C. Burkhart and a son, Samuel
Leyman who died on Oct. 13th of this year; three sisters, Peg Stanley
Turax, Bertha Stanley Warfle and Helen Stanley and four brothers, Howard
Stanley, A. Edwin Stanley, Robert C. Stanley and Albert Stanley.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 31, at
2:30 O’clock. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. A viewing
will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon between 1:30 and
