Virginia C. Downs, age 94, of
Deerfield Township died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Genesis-Rainbow
Center in Pittsgrove Township. She had been in declining health for the
past eight years.
Born in Conemaugh, Pennsylvania, the
daughter of the late Anson and Carrie Evans Link, she had been a
Deerfield Township resident for 68 years and prior to that had lived in
Bridgeton and Pennsylvania.
Before her retirement she had been
employed with the former Price Cleaners in Bridgeton for many years.
A 1930 graduate of Johnstown High
School in Pennsylvania, she was a member of the Friendship Finley United
Methodist Church where she was very active in the years past. She was
also a member of the Daughters of America.
Surviving are two sons, Melvin M.
Downs, Jr. of Deerfield Township and David A. Downs, Sr. of Pittsgrove;
two sisters, Flowella Lusardi of Pennsylvania and Rowena Stormes of
Hopewell Township; one brother, Melbourne Link of Ohio, 4 grandchildren
and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose
Marie Michaels and June Allison and a brother, G. Blaine Link.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, September 16th at 11 a.m. at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107
State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township.
Burial will be made at Laurel Lawn
Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10
to 11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
