Arthur J. Schafer, age 71, of
Rosenhayn died Friday evening, September 15, 2006 at the Hospice Care
Unit of South Jersey Healthcare in Bridgeton. He had been in declining
health for the past eight months.
Born in Cedarville, the son of the
late Arthur and Edna May Kline Schafer he was the husband of Catherine
Ridgeway Schafer. He had been a Rosenhayn resident for the past 12 years
and previous to that had lived in Hopewell Township and Cedarville.
Mr. Schafer was a veteran of the
United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict.
Before his retirement 12 years ago he had been employed with the
Suburban Propane Company in Bridgeton for 26 years. He had also served
with the Bridgeton Police Department for a 10 year period.
An avid fisherman, he enjoyed the
outdoors and NASCAR auto racing.
In addition to his wife Catherine,
survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Laurella and her husband Michael
of Rosenhayn and Nancy Schafer also of Rosenhayn; two sons, Arthur J.
Schafer, Jr. of Bridgeton and Robert Schafer and his wife Cherie of
Pittsgrove; a sister, Betty Serling and her husband George of
Romeoville, Illinois, 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by a sister, Mabel Jean Schafer.
Private memorial services will be
held at the convenience of the family from the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME,
1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township.
Cremation and inurnment took place at
Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township.
In lieu of flowers the family asks
that contributions in Mr. Schafer’s memory be made to HospiceCare of
South Jersey, 2848 South Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360. Written
