Peter Chann, age 86, of Upper
Deerfield Township died Monday, August 13, 2007 at the HospiceCare Unit
at South Jersey Hospital, Bridgeton. He had been in declining health for
the past six months.
Born in Millville, the son of the
late John and Anna Podilska Chann, he was the husband of Rosalia Rizzo.
He had been an Upper Deerfield Township resident for 49 years moving
there from Bridgeton. Mr. and Mrs. Chann would have celebrated their
52nd wedding anniversary on August 28th.
A veteran of World War Two, Mr. Chann
had served with the United States Army Air Corps in both the European
and Asian Theaters. He received the Purple Heart during his time of
service.
Before his retirement 17 years ago he
had owned and operated Pete’s Automotive Repair in Upper Deerfield
Township for 25 years. He had also been service manager at the former
Scribner and Lewis Automobile Agency in Bridgeton.
Mr. Chann was a member of St.
Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Millville, a longtime member of
the Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W. Meade-Woodward Post 1795 and
Loyal Order of Moose Lodge both of Bridgeton. He was also a retired
member of Upper Deerfield Township Fire Company # 1 having served there
for 40 years.
An avid motorcyclist, he was a
partner in the former Chann’s Harley Davidson that had been located in
Bridgeton and Upper Deerfield Township and well known as a factory racer
for the motorcycle company along with his brothers Jimmy and Steve. He
was a Charter and Life member of the American Motorcycle Association and
a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by a son, Kenneth A. Chann, Sr. and his wife Laura of Vineland
and two grandchildren, Rosalia and Kenneth “K.C.” Chann, Jr. He was
predeceased by a son, Peter Chann, Jr., five brothers, James, John,
George, Stephen and Nicholas and three sisters, Helen Kamenski, Anne
Harper and Marion Chann.
