Paul Bachtalowsky, age 69, of
Pittsgrove Township died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December
29, 2007.
Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, the son
of the late Nicholas Bachtalowsky and Anastasia Vosilenko Bachtalowsky
he was the husband of Alla Smirnoff Bachtalowsky.
He had been a Pittsgrove Township
resident since 1951 and prior that had lived in the Freehold area for a
time after coming to the United States.
Before his retirement after 38 years
of teaching in 2000, he was a Social Studies teacher at the Bridgeton
Middle School. He also had done some substitute teaching after
retirement for a few years.
Paul was an active member of his
church, the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Vineland where he
was currently Treasurer and had served on the Church Council.
A gifted craftsman and carpenter he
had remodeled and repaired many area homes. Paul was a unique individual
in many ways and deeply appreciated because of that uniqueness. An avid
motorcyclist and skier he had traveled through much of Europe and the
South Western United States keeping photo journals as he traveled. He
had a passion for ancient civilizations and history and never ceased
being a teacher through his discussions and debates.
In addition to his wife survivors
include a daughter, Natalie Bachtalowsky and her fiancé, Thomas Wingate,
III of Norwalk, CT; a son, Nicholas Bachtalowsky of Mays Landing; a
sister, Alexandra Bless of New Brunswick, 3 grandchildren and many
nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends including
his breakfast group who met on a daily basis. He was predeceased by a
sister, Lydia Banos.
Funeral services will be held at Holy
Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, 2211 West Landis Avenue, Vineland on
Friday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will take place at New Kuban
Cemetery, Buena.
Friends may call on Thursday evening,
January 3rd from 7 to 9 p.m. at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township.
