Elvina Johnson

Elvina Johnson, 90, of Cedarville, died in South Jersey Regional Hospital, Vineland, on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, after a brief illness.

The wife of the late Charles F. “Snap” Johnson, she was born in Port Norris and was the daughter of the late Jesse G. Gaskill, Jr. and Rose Wehbey Gaskill. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of Cedarville for 60 years, coming from Port Norris.

Mrs. Johnson was an elementary school teacher by profession and before her retirement had taught at the Hopewell Township School for 18 years and prior to that at the Fairfield Township School for 9 years. She had also been a substitute teacher for several years in different area schools.

She was a member of the Cedarville Baptist Church, where she had formerly served as a deaconess and as a member of the church choir. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include: one son, Frank C. Johnson and his wife Debbie of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two grandchildren, Bradley C. Johnson, Redondo Beach, Ca. and Heather Johnson Frankenberger, Chicago, Ill, and three great grandchildren, Amanda, Thomas and James Frankenberger, all of Chicago, Ill., one brother, Jesse Gaskill, Modesto, Cal. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Springfield and three brothers, Joseph Gaskill, Daniel Gaskill and George Gaskill.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main St., Cedarville, on Monday morning, Dec. 31, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cedarville. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 O’clock. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions, in Mrs. Johnson’s memory, to Cedarville Baptist Church, Main St., Cedarville, N. J. 08311.
