Gertrude Sutton

Gertrude Sutton, 86, of Millville, formerly of Fairton, died at the home of her daughter Margaret on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. She had been in failing health for the past year.

The wife of the late Paul Sutton, she was born in Bridgeton and was the daughter of the late Edward Fithian and Hannah Green Fithian. She had lived in Millville for the past 20 years and prior to that had been a resident of Fairton.

Before her retirement she had been employed with Crystal Laundry in Millville, James Greenhouses in Fairton and Sunny Slope Farms in Hopewell Township.

Gertrude attended Fairton United Methodist Church. Until her vision failed she enjoyed traveling with Thompson Tours and with her sister Edna, on any given day or weekend. She enjoyed the Christmas Holidays and lighting decorations. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Onized Club of Owens-Illinois Glass Co.

Survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Sutton McKnight, Millville and Wanda Sutton and her companion Kate O’Leary, Vineland; one son, Paul “Reds” Sutton, Jr. and his wife June, Cedarville; two sisters, Edna Fithian Cox, Fairton and Doris Fithian Whatley, Alabama; one brother, Charles Fithian, Fairton; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers, Vernon, Andrew, Leon, Edward, Jack, Harry, Ralph, Kenneth and Henry Fithian and a sister, Mildred Rose Fithian.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Friday morning, Dec. 14, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning between 9:00 and 11:00 O’clock.
