Walter L. Denby, Sr., 85, of Quinton
Township, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Elsmere, Del.,
on Thursday Feb. 22, 2006. He had been in failing health for several
years.
The husband of the late Marion Tunis Denby, he was born in Hopewell
Township and was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Douglas Denby.
Prior to his retirement Walter had been employed with Owens-Illinois
Glass Co. in Bridgeton. He had also been a self-employed skilled
craftsman in the building trades.
He was an active member of Haven United Methodist Church in Quinton Twp.
A veteran of the U. S. Army, he was a member of the Cuff-Barksdale Post
# 444, American Legion in Salem.
Survivors include: one brother, Willie Denby, Vineland; one sister, Mary
Wright, Vineland; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his
care-givers, Dorothy Scott, Bridgeton and Richard Moore, West Deptford.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Walter L. Denby, Jr. and Douglas
L. Denby; five brothers, Joseph, Walter, David, Charles and Elmer and
three sisters, Martha, Julia and Essie.
Funeral services will be held in the Haven United Methodist Church,
Route 49, Quinton Township, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 27, at 11:00
O’clock. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township. A
viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday morning between 9:00 and
11:00 O’clock. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
