Lee Marie Evans, aged 86, of Newport,
died in Genesis-Millville Center on Monday morning, July 9, 2007. She
had been in failing health for the past 6 ˝ years.
The wife of the late Joseph H. Evans, Jr., she was born in VanHiseville,
N. J. and was the daughter of the late Howard C. Johnson and Ledonna
Williams Johnson. She had been a resident of Newport for most of her
life.
Prior to her retirement in 1986, she had been employed with the U. S.
Postal Service at the Newport Post Office for 31 years and had served as
Postmistress for the last 20 of those years.
Survivors include: one son, Joseph “Skip” Evans, III and his wife Joan
of Cedarville; two grandchildren, Scott Evans and his wife Renee,
Dividing Creek and Kristi Donoflio and her husband, Duane, Newport; two
great grandchildren, Katelyn R. Evans and Emily Evans; one
step-daughter, June Connors and her husband Bill of Neptune; one
brother, Orville Johnson and his wife Marion, Palm Beach, Fla.; two
sisters, Minerva Lefler, Aiken, S. C. and Verna Sprinkle, Jackson and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Edward Johnson and two sisters, Eloise Gregg and Viola Thompson.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main St.,
Cedarville, on Wednesday afternoon, July 11th, at 1:00 O’clock. Burial
will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. A viewing will be held at
the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon between 12:00 and 1:00 O’clock.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations, in Mrs. Evans’ memory,
