David S. Burley

David S. Burley, age 70, of Upper Deerfield Township died Wednesday morning, June 6, 2007 at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center where he had been a patient for one month. He had been in declining health for the past four years.

The husband of Doretta Jean Dunmeyer Burley, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Chambers Burley. He had been an Upper Deerfield Township resident for 5 years moving there from Florida where they had lived for 13 years. Mr. and Mrs. Burley had also lived in Port Elizabeth for many years.

Prior to his retirement due to disability in 1980, Mr. Burley had been employed as a teacher at the Pittsgrove Township Elementary School for several years. He and his wife had also operated D.J.’s Variety Store in Port Elizabeth.

He was a member of the Port Elizabeth Nazarene Church, the New Jersey Education Association and the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Debra Jean Burley of Burlington and Diane Carr of Rosenhayn; a son, Darren A. Burley of Massachusetts; a sister, Dr. Mary Anne Herron of Springfield, MA, 17 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Monday morning, June 11, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will take place in Head of the River Cemetery, Estell Manor. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 O’clock. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions, in Mr. Burley’s memory, be made to the charity of one’s choice.
