Jesse J. Corbin, 86, departed this
life at Rainbow Nursing Center, Pittsgrove, on Friday, May 18, 2007,
after a period of declining health.
Jesse was born on February 25, 1921 in Ridge, Md., to Simon and Edna
Bennett Corbin and was educated in Saint Mary’s County, Md. He moved to
Port Norris, N. J. in his early adulthood and resided there until his
health began to decline.
He retired from the New Jersey Veterans Home in Vineland in 1983 as
Director of Food Services. He had also formerly been employed with
Venice Maid Co. in Vineland and had worked for many years in the fishing
and seafood industry.
He was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Norris and was
a member of the Deacon Board.
Survivors include: his wife, Bertha “Peaches” Jamison Corbin and their
ten children; eight sons, Robert (Janet) Jamison, Laurel Lake, James
Corbin and Harold Corbin, both of Bridgeton, Dennis (Elizabeth) Corbin,
Vineland, Rev. Donald (Ida) Corbin and Leonard Corbin, both of
Millville, Keith Corbin (Rebecca), Whitesboro and Russell Corbin,
Raleigh, N. C. Also surviving are his two daughters, Patricia Corbin,
Bowie, Md. and Annette (Ronald) Kent, Millville. Additionally, he is
survived by 25 grandchildren; one brother, John Thomas Corbin, Temple
Hills, Md.; three sisters, Helena Fenwick and Inez Corbin of Lexington
Park, Md. and Elizabeth Hicks, St. Louis, Mo., plus a host of great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Emerson Corbin and Russell Corbin and
a sister, Doris Hewlett.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, at 12:00 O’clock
noon, in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Memorial Ave., Port Norris. Burial
will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. A viewing will be held at
the church on Wednesday morning between 10:00 and 12:00 O’clock. Funeral
