George C. Hayes, age 69, of Vineland
died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Regional Medical
Center in Elsmere, Delaware where he had been a patient for one year. He
had been in declining health for the past two years.
Born in Fairton, the son of the late
Gay Anderson Hayes and Ida Bradwell Hayes he was the husband of Thelma
Cooper Hayes. He had been a Vineland resident for 40 years and prior to
that had lived in Kansas and Fairton.
Mr. Hayes was a veteran having served
with the United States Air Force in Germany and England.
He was formerly employed as a truck
driver with the Armellini Express Company in Vineland for 25 years and
the Joffe Lumber Company in Vineland for 10 years.
He was a member of American Legion
Post 4 in Vineland and American Legion Post 95 in Bridgeton.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by five daughters, twins Patricia Dempsey of Pleasantville and
Theresa Wilson of Millville, Audrey Hayes of Upper Deerfield Township,
Debra Hayes of Bridgeton and Ida Hayes-Scharon of Vineland; two sons,
Allen Hayes of Fairton and Leon Hayes of Elizabeth; two brothers,
Anderson Hayes of Vineland and Louis Joe Hayes of Florida; a sister,
Evangelist Thelma Marie Hayes, R.N. of Bronx, NY and many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by
a son, George C. Hayes, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at the
Union Baptist Temple, South Pine and Willow Streets, Bridgeton on
Tuesday, May 15th at 11 a.m.
The burial will take place at the
Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Arneytown on Wednesday, May 16th.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 to
11 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
