Garfield J. Pierce, Sr., aged 71, of
Fairfield Township, died suddenly at South Jersey Regional Hospital on
Thursday, May 31. 2007.
The husband of Saretta E. Jones Pierce, he was born in Bridgeton and was
the son of the late Wayman A. Pierce, Sr. and Agnes B. Pierce. He had
been a lifetime resident of Fairfield Township.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, he had been employed with Cumberland
Dairies in Bridgeton for 17 years. Before that he had worked for the
former Merbeck Mfg. Co. for 9 ½ years and with the former Shoemaker
Dairies for 15 years.
Garfield was an active member and elder of the Down Town Bridgeton
Congregation, Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He loved traveling with his family, cooking and making model airplanes.
Besides his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Sherry L. Mosley and
her husband Clifton, Lawnside; five sons, Garfield J. Pierce, Jr. and
his wife Leslie, Millville, C. Jeffrey Pierce and his wife Yolanda,
Vineland, Maurice A. Pierce and his wife Maria, Bridgeton, Emery L.
Pierce and his wife Lorna, Magnolia and Charles G. Pierce and his wife
Mariluz, Bridgeton; two sisters, Maxine Green, Salem and Dorothy Dunn,
Bridgeton and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four
brothers, Donald Pierce, Wayman Pierce, Jr., Littleton Pierce and
Richard W. Pierce and three sisters, Agnes Johnson, Matilda Johnson and
Martha Pierce.
A memorial funeral service will be held in the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s
Witnesses, 691 Irving Ave., Bridgeton, on Saturday afternoon, June 9, at
2:00 O’clock.
Cremation will take place at Laurel Lawn Crematory, Upper Deerfield
Township. A viewing will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Wednesday evening June 6,
between 6:00 and 9:00 O’clock. Written condolences may be sent to the
