William J. “Eagle” Weiss, 90, died at
his summer home in Bridgeton, on Monday evening, Sept. 17, 2007. He had
been in failing health for the past 10 years.
The husband of Elaine Servais Weiss, he was born in Hillside, N. J. and
was the son of the late Frank and Julia Yaggie Wiess. He had been a
resident of Arcadia, Florida since 1982 and prior to that he had lived
in the Bridgeton area.
Prior to his retirement in 1982, Eagle had been employed as a tractor
trailer driver with the former Seabrook Farms, where he had worked for
42 years. He had also been employed with the U. S. Conservation Corps in
the building of Parvins’ State Park.
He was an avid NASCAR and Motorcycle Racing Fan. He had raced
motorcycles on the beach in Daytona Beach, Fl., during the 1950’s.
Eagle was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Elks Lodge # 1498,
Bridgeton, Order of Eagles Airy # 1836, Millville and the Loyal Order of
Moose Lodge # 2121, Port Charlotte , Fl. He was also a retired member of
Teamsters Union, Local 676, Gloucester.
Besides his wife, survivors include: one son, John Weiss, Bridgeton;
five daughters, Penny Connelly, Millville, Deana Weiss, Millville,
Jackie Headley, Bridgeton, Gerry Uzdanovics, Bridgeton and Mary Ellen
MacMahan, Bridgeton; two step-sons, Carl Rainear, Sr., Florida and Bruce
Osborn, Bridgeton; one step-daughter, Judy M. Halter, Maryland and
several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth
Weiss; two brothers, Stanley Weiss and Frank Weiss and one sister,
Juanita Bennett.
Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday morning, Sept. 22nd,
at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Laurel Lawn Cemetery, Upper
Deerfield Township. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on
Saturday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 O’clock. In lieu of flowers the
family suggests contributions to South Jersey Healthcare HospiceCare, P.
