Ellis K. “Bob” McPherson, age 72, of
Bridgeton died Wednesday evening April 9, 2008 in the Emergency Room of
South Jersey Hospital Elmer.
Born in Bridgeton, the son of the late Charles McPherson and Dorothy
Wood McPherson he was the husband of Geraldine White McPherson and had
been a Bridgeton resident most of his life.
Before his retirement four years ago he had been employed with the City
of Bridgeton Department of Streets and Roads for ten years. He had also
previously worked for Gentile Brothers and the former Owens-Illinois
Glass Company in Bridgeton.
He was a career veteran of the United States Air Force having served
during the Vietnam Conflict and was also a former member of the New
Jersey Army National Guard.
A 1955 graduate of Bridgeton High School, Bob was a member of V.F.W.
Meade Woodward Post 1795, Bridgeton, the Fifth Ward Athletic Club, the
Italian American Political Club and was a regular attendee of the
Bridgeton City Council meetings. He was a former member of the Bridgeton
City Crime Watch for 10 years and was an avid golfer, Philadelphia
Phillies Fan and greatly enjoyed yard work and gardening.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a stepdaughter, Terry Louise
Hunt of Nevada City, CA; two stepsons, R. Scott Whaley of CA and Brian
R. Whaley of Marietta, GA; a sister, Dale Capps of Bridgeton, 5
step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
a brother Charles “Alfie” McPherson, Jr. and a sister who passed March
30th, Charlotte L. Woodward.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Tuesday, April 15th at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in
Hopewell Township.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the
services at the funeral home.
