Lilla K. LiCalzi, age 91, of
Sellersville, PA and formerly a well known resident of Greenwich, went
home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the
Rock Hill Mennonite Community in Sellersville.
Born in Burma, she was the daughter
of missionary parents. Her father, the late Dr. Clarence Kirkpatrick,
M.D. was a second generation medical missionary and her late mother,
Elizabeth Margeram Kirkpatrick was a trained missionary careerist.
A high school graduate of the
Moorestown Friends School, Lilla continued her studies at Wellesley
College in Massachusetts, Keuka College in New York, Wheaton College in
Illinois and Columbia Bible College in South Carolina. She received her
post graduate Masters in Religious Education from Eastern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. In 1944 she received her
Registered Nurses degree from the Women’s Medical College of
Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
In the fall of 1945 she began a 24
year career as a medical missionary in central India.
In 1969 during the first year of her
retirement she married the late Rev. Philip R. LiCalzi of Greenwich who
had been her Pastor in Moorestown at the time of her ordination and
departure for India.
Though retired, she continued to
spend many hours translating the Bible into the Hindu language as a part
of her missionary work. She also enjoyed gardening and playing the
organ. Her smile and sweet and kind spirit will be missed by those who
knew her.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol J.
Truxton and her husband Milt of Millville; four grandchildren, Rev.
Victor Kuligin and his wife Rachel of Africa, Chivon MacMillan and her
husband Doug of East Windsor, Lani Morehouse and her husband Mark of
Mullica Hill and Holly Petroff and her husband Greg of Cream Ridge; a
daughter in law, Christine LiCalzi of Mullica Hill and a nephew Robert
Kirk of Pennsylvania along with 8 great-grandchildren. She was
predeceased by a son, Philip Lance LiCalzi.
Memorial services will be announced
at a future date.
Arrangements are under the direction
of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield
Township.
In lieu of flowers the family asks
that contributions in Mrs. LiCalzi’s memory be made to the missionary
work of her grandson, Rev. Victor Kuligan at Africa Inland Mission
International, P.O. Box 178, Pearl River, NY 10965.
