Joseph "Barry" Houbary, Jr.

Joseph “Barry” Houbary, Jr., age 61, of Bridgeton died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he had been a patient for one day following a brief illness.

Born in Woodbury, the son of the late Joseph Houbary and Rose Wilson Houbary he was the husband of Susan (Nasuti) Denner-Houbary. He had been a Bridgeton resident for 11 years and prior to that had resided in Malaga.

Before his retirement he had served as an officer with the New Jersey State Police, Troop A, at the Woodstown, Bellmawr, Red Bank and Berlin Barracks for a total of 21 years. After retirement he had served as Director of Security at the Schalick and Cumberland Regional High Schools.

Mr. Houbary was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam Conflict.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and had served as co-advisor of the CAST fishing club at Cumberland Regional High School.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Stephen J. Houbary and his wife Nancy of Vineland; a stepson, Charles Denner, Jr., of Bridgeton; five sisters, Jerilyn Tranquillo and husband John of Gibbstown, Darla Byrne and husband Gerald of Gibbstown, Rosemary Ferroni and husband Louis of Cedarbrook, Candelle Lowe and husband Jim of Ocean City and Karla Tropea and husband Michael of Lugoff, NC; a brother in law, Anthony Nasuti of Millville; two grandchildren, Dylan and Ashton Houbary and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Friday evening, February 1st at 8 p.m.

Cremation and inurnment will take place at Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
