Lawrence C. Davis, age 77, of Newport
died Monday, July 7, 2008 at the South Jersey Hospice Care Center in
Bridgeton following a brief illness.
Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Charles P. Davis and Mary
Loper Davis and the wife of M. Elaine Banks Davis. He had resided in
Newport for the past 37 years and prior to that had resided in Hopewell
Township.
Before his retirement 15 years ago Mr. Davis had been employed with the
New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, Bell Atlantic and Verizon for 38
years.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United
States Navy.
He was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church and a church
trustee, Masonic Lodge F & A M, Cedarville, a former fire commissioner
with the Newport Volunteer Fire Department and a former Sea Scout Leader
on Ship Two out of Bridgeton for 16 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Bruce L. Davis of
Orlando, FL and Lloyd A. Davis of Oxford, NC; a daughter, Dawn M. Holton
of Newport, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10th at 9:30 a.m. at the
PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville.
Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the
services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Mr. Davis’s
memory be made to the South Jersey Hospice Care Unit, P.O. Box 160,
Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
