Edith E. “Yellow Flower” Ridgeway,
80, of Hopewell Township, died at her home on Tuesday afternoon, July
29, 2008. She had been in failing health for the past 5 years.
The wife of the late Henry E. “White Deer Smiling” Ridgeway, she was
born in Cheswold, DE and was the daughter of the late Arthur Sammons and
Rosella Mosley Sammons. She had been a resident of Hopewell Township for
64 years and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton.
Prior to her retirement she had been employed in the cafeteria
department at Cumberland Regional High School and before that with the
former Seibel and Stern Clothing Co. in Bridgeton, where she had worked
for several years.
Edith was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indians and St. John’s
United Methodist Church in Fordville where she had served as choir
director for many years.
She loved her family and grandchildren. Edith was a Philadelphia
Phillies fan and enjoyed puzzles and board games.
Survivors include: two sons, Henry E. Ridgeway, Jr. and his wife
Michelle, Hopewell Township and Fred A. Ridgeway, Hopewell Township; one
daughter, Edith R. Pierce and her husband Lewis “Sonny” of Upper
Deerfield Township; two brothers, Walter Mosley, Philadelphia, Pa. and
Jake Sammons, Cheswold, DE; two brothers-in-law, Norman Ridgeway,
Fairfield Township and Jake Pierce, Shiloh; four sisters-in-law,
Christine Miller, Hopewell Township, Pauline Pearl Gould and her husband
Toby, Fairfield Township, Jackie Johnson, Cheswold, DE and Mary Lou
Sammons, Fairfield Township; five grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren. She was preceded death by two children, Marvin Wayne
Ridgeway and Diana Lynn Ridgeway; one brother, Billy Sammons and two
sisters, Helen “Bootsie” Johnson and Bernice Ridgeway Hands.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Sunday morning, Aug. 3rd at 11
a.m.
Burial will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday evening between 5 p.m.
and 7 p.m. and on Sunday morning between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
