Henry J. Smith, Jr., 73, of
Bridgeton, died in at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on
Friday, July 25, 2008, after a brief illness. He had been a patient at
the hospital for 2 days.
The husband of Frances V. Forman Smith, he was born in Amsterdam, GA and
was the son of the late Henry Smith and Lula Mae James Smith. He had
been a Bridgeton resident for most of his life.
Prior to his retirement 9 years ago, Henry had been employed with Union
Local 222 in Camden with the Laborer’s International Union of North
America.
Henry was a Veteran of the U. S. Army. He attended Union Baptist Temple
in Bridgeton and was a member of the Bridgeton Independent Club. He
enjoyed working in the yard at his home.
Besides his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Michelle Holden
(Vincent), New Castle, DE, Kim Smith, Bridgeton, Valerie Smith,
Millville and LaShawn Smith, Washington Township; one son, Henry Smith,
Bridgeton; eight sisters, Estelle (William) Jacobs, Bridgeton, Willa Mae
(David) Harris, Neptune, Gladys (Clifford) Lewis, Bridgeton, Beulah
Hickman, Penns Grove, Mary Alice Wise, Bridgeton, Pearl Smith, Vineland,
Lois Hunter, Vineland, Dale Smith of Bridgeton, seven grandchildren, two
great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was
preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Phyllis Smith and a
brother, Leonard Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Union Baptist Temple, South Pine and
Willow Streets, Bridgeton on Friday, August 1st at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the
services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper
Deerfield Township.
